Audio Tour Brochure (PDF - 3MB)
Pacific Historic Parks unveiled its new audio tour in late February, 2011 at the recently expanded and renovated Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Featuring the voices of Pearl Harbor Survivors and noted National Park Service Pearl Harbor historian Daniel Martinez, the tour is narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of actor and WWII, War in the Pacific veteran Tony Curtis.
The choice of Ms. Curtis was both providential and appropriate. After a tour of the Visitor Center with her family last year, Ms. Curtis offered to help promote or fundraise in any way she could. Her offer was quickly accepted and after extensive re-working of the tour to accommodate new museum exhibits and other innovative outdoor interpretation, recording took place in Los Angeles in February and the new tour was rolled out later that month.
On the tour, Ms. Curtis expresses why she feels especially connected to this national monument:- Like many others of his generation, my father proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War Two. In 1945, he witnessed the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay from the signal bridge of his submarine tender, USS Proteus. As his daughter, I am honored to welcome you to the World War Two Valor in the Pacific National Monument and the USS Arizona Memorial. This is where World War Two began for the United States on December 7, 1941.
After recording the tour, Ms. Curtis sent a message that sums up how all of us who work at this national monument feel: “Such a story. I’m honored to be a part of history.”
The next time you visit WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument, please consider taking the audio tour, and learn more about this special place in history.
