TEMPORARY CLOSURES AT DIAMOND HEAD STATE PARK FOR
ROCKFALL MITIGATION AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

HONOLULU (February 14, 2025) – Pacific Historic Parks (PHP), which operates the
Diamond Head Visitor Center in partnership with the Hawai'i State Park Division,
reminds visitors that Diamond Head State Monument will experience temporary full and
partial closures in March and April due to ongoing construction.
Contractors during this time will work to stabilize loose rocks around the Kāhala Tunnel
entering Diamond Head crater. The full and partial closures are listed below:
Full Park Closures:
March 4-7 (Tuesday-Friday)
March 11-14 (Tuesday-Friday)
April 1-4 (Tuesday-Friday)
April 8-11 (Tuesday-Friday)
April 14-17 (Monday-Thursday)
Partial Park Closures (Early Closure Begins at 2 p.m. on These Dates):
March 3 (Monday)
March 10 (Monday)
March 31 (Monday)
April 7 (Monday)
April 14 (Monday)
April 18 (Friday)
During Spring Break from March 17-28, the park will remain open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
with construction work occurring overnight between 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. "These closures are necessary to complete critical rockfall mitigation efforts and ensure
the safety of park visitors and staff," said PHP President and CEO Aileen Utterdyke.
"We understand some visitors may be disappointed, but these measures are essential
for everyone’s safety. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we
work with state officials to protect and preserve this iconic landmark for future
generations."
